Should I Start A Company Or Stay Employed — Three Ziwei Signals From Career + Wealth Palaces

Should I Start A Company Or Stay Employed — Three Ziwei Signals From Career + Wealth Palaces

My friend K asked me a question at 33 that took me three days to answer cleanly.

"Louis, I make a high six figures at a top company, mid-level. Looks good on paper. But every morning I wake up feeling I'm wasting my time. I want to start something. But I'm scared. Can ziwei tell me if I'm suited to entrepreneurship or to stay employed."

What I gave her wasn't "yes" or "no." I gave her three signals. She compared them against her own chart that night. The next month she resigned. Now at 35, her company is small but profitable.

Three signals, sharing them:

Why this question is so hard

Many women ask "am I suited for entrepreneurship," expecting yes/no. Ziwei doesn't give yes/no. Ziwei gives you where you'll get stuck if you start a company / where you'll wither if you stay employed, then lets you choose which pain you can carry.

There is no "suited to be employed" person. There's no "suited to be an entrepreneur" person. There's only "I can handle this kind of pain / I can't handle that kind of pain." Your ziwei tells you which pain you're built for.

Three signals follow.

Signal 1: Is your career palace main star "active type" or "responsive type"

The 14 main stars divide into two action modes.

Active type: Ziwei, Wu Qu, Lian Zhen, Tan Lang, Qi Sha, Po Jun. These six push outward. They make their own activeness even when forced into passive positions. They wither in long-term employment, because employment's core is matching others' tempo, not your own.

Responsive type: Tian Ji, Tai Yin, Tian Tong, Tian Fu, Tian Liang, Tian Xiang. These six respond. They excel at executing on others' needs, struggle to create needs from scratch. They can do short-term entrepreneurship, but long-term solo operation burns them.

Middle (Tai Yang, Ju Men): depends on specific palace and combinations.

K's career palace is Qi Sha. Active type. I told her, "Your chart is the 'employment-wither' type. You don't have to start a company, but you must find an 'employee role with high autonomy' (business unit lead with significant authority). Otherwise you'll explode before 40."

Signal 2: Do your wealth palace and career palace point the same direction, or different

Most people don't realize this.

Wealth palace = how you make money. Career palace = how you work.

Theoretically these should align. In reality, more than 50% of people have these two pointing different directions. That's why some have "mediocre main job but successful side business" (weak career strong wealth), and some have "impressive job but no money" (strong career weak wealth).

Strong wealth + weak career → you fit entrepreneurship / self-employment. Your money-making ability isn't bound to employment. Leaving the job actually unlocks earning.

Weak wealth + strong career → you fit stable salaried work, not entrepreneurship. Your energy is work mode (doing work well), not money mode (commercial judgment).

Strong + strong → you fit intrapreneurship. Run a new business unit inside a big platform. Use the platform's resources with high autonomy.

Weak + weak → you don't have to push career hard. Your energy may be elsewhere (family, scholarship, public service, creation). Not pushing isn't failure.

K's wealth palace is Tan Lang Hua Lu, strong. Career palace Qi Sha, also strong. I told her, "You're 'both strong.' You should run a new business unit at a large platform — platform resources + autonomy. But since you've decided to start independently, that works too — higher risk, but matches your energy."

Signal 3: Your travel palace + parents palace determine your "external friction coefficient"

Many entrepreneurial failures aren't about bad products. They're about the founder unable to absorb external friction.

Ziwei measures external friction with two palaces.

Travel palace: your fortune outside. Strong travel palace, you encounter benefactors, resources, opportunities outside. Weak travel palace, you encounter obstacles, troubles, drains.

Parents palace: your relationship with authority and resource holders. Strong parents palace, you easily find investors, mentors, industry seniors. Weak parents palace, even your great product gets stuck not finding the right resource provider.

Strong travel + strong parents → you have external tailwinds, charge boldly. Strong travel + weak parents → you fit B2C startups (consumer-facing, not resource-dependent). Weak travel + strong parents → you fit B2B startups (enterprise/government, resource-dependent). Both weak → you can do short-term solo (freelance, one-person company), but don't recommend leading a team and raising capital. External friction will drain you 3x more than typical.

K's travel palace is Tai Yang, parents palace Tian Fu. Both strong. I told her, "You're 'external tailwind' type. Your biggest asset in entrepreneurship is people helping you when you leave home. You should have started a year earlier, not later."

Three signals combined = your answer

K's three signals:

  • Signal 1: active type (Qi Sha career) → not suited for long-term employment
  • Signal 2: both strong → intrapreneurship or independent startup
  • Signal 3: external tailwind → entrepreneurship has external help

Combined: her entrepreneurship success probability is above average. I gave her the three signals. She made her own decision.

You can run this 3-step check. You don't need me to decide for you. Look at your career palace main star type. See if your wealth and career align. Check if travel and parents are both strong. Three signals together give you a judgment more reliable than gut feeling.

Special note for women entrepreneurs

Ziwei's 14 main stars have no gender. But society's external friction is 30-50% higher on women entrepreneurs than men. Not metaphysics — sociology. So if you're a woman, you ideally need all three signals strong before committing. If one signal is weak, social environment will amplify your difficulty further.

Not discouraging. Just making sure you're psychologically prepared. Knowing the difficulty, you won't deny yourself after one setback.

K is 35 now. She told me, "The biggest gain from starting wasn't the money. It's that I no longer wake up feeling I'm wasting my time." That single thing — 10 years of $80K salary never bought it.

Your ziwei doesn't say "you're suited or not suited." It says which pain you can carry. Choose your pain right, and you find your life.
